aca-reportingSummer has officially ended.  By now, your kids are back in school, your tan is fading and the end of the year will be here before you know it.  It is time to play catch-up on ACA reporting.

Below, you’ll find a breakdown of the Who’s Who of ACA reporting.  Find the category that applies to your company.  Before you start, there is one key definition you must understand – Applicable Large Employer (ALE).  Generally, an ALE is an employer with 50 or more full-time employees (including full-time equivalent employees).

I.  Small Employer

  1. No Group Health Plan – No Employer Reporting on Forms 1095-B or C.
  2. Group Health Plan
    1. Fully-Insured – No Employer Reporting on Forms 1095-B or C (Insurance Company will report).
    2. Self-Insured
      1. Enrolled Employees – Employer must send Form 1095-B.
      2. Employee did not enroll – No employer reporting on Forms 1095-B or C.

II.  Applicable Large Employer

  1. No Group Health Plan – Employer must send to all full-time employees a Form 1095-C with Parts I and II completed.
  2. Group Health Plan

      1. Enrolled Employees - Employer must send to all full-time employees a Form 1095-C with Parts I and II completed.
      2. Employee did not enroll - Employer must send to all full-time employees a Form 1095-C with Parts I and II completed.
    2. Self-Insured
      1. Enrolled Employees – Employer must send to all enrolled employees a Form 1095-C with Parts I, II and III completed.
      2. >Employee did not enroll - Employer must send to all full-time employees a Form 1095-C with Parts I and II completed.

Now that you have located your plan category above, the next step is to visit the IRS website and review the actual forms.  The forms and instructions will help you learn what data you need to compile.  You can access the forms and reporting Q&As at www.irs.gov.  Good luck getting caught up!
